YunTech is a key university of science and technology in Taiwan. It is a world-class university for industry-academia innovation and a clean and green model campus. YunTech aims to fulfill its responsibility for the positive development of society. Our core concept for campus governance is environmental sustainability. We have achieved outstanding results in infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste treatment, water resources, transportation, education, carbon emission, and many other projects. YunTech has integrated the “focus on production and research topics for vertical and in-depth talent cultivation” into teacher-student teaching activities, and industry/academia cooperation plans to provide a better environment for the next generation and provide students with a high-quality learning field. YunTech has established 27 Problem-Based Learning (PBL) centers indifferent professional and technical fields. These are practical interschool and interdepartmental centers designed to cultivate key talents for future sustainable issues. Industry-academia collaboration is based on promoting a more practical B2B model to integrate the R&D energy of the PBL research center, coordinating the professional research centers of various colleges, cultivating the energy and culture of industry-academia R&D, and actively developing the demand for local industrial talents.

YunTech takes “promoting economic, social, and environmental sustainability through the power of education and knowledge” as its sustainable vision according to the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations SDGs. YunTech’s school development strategy encompasses specialization, academization, industry-academia cooperation, internationalization, and smartization. This goal is to align the economic, environmental, and social needs; make outstanding contributions to local and global welfare; promote practical actions for sustainable campuses. YunTech has launched a school carbon inventory to declare carbon neutrality preparations. Many teachers and students have actively invested in environmental issues and trained to assist with local carbon inventory. The overall education plan also introduces sustainable issues, and teachers have adjusted the content in the syllabus to align with SDGs issues and actions. After the theoretical and practical course reform, students can master the employment skills urgently needed by sustainable industries through courses and internships and are trained to integrate seamlessly with the industry in the future.

YunTech has been highly recognized by all fields for its steadfast and sustainable actions. YunTech ranked 56th in the 2021 Green University World Competition and 27th worldwide for the “Industry Income” indicator by the 2022 Times Higher Education (THE). The results indicated that YunTech’s green campus and industry-academia education had gained an international foothold. In the 2022 World University Impact Rankings, YunTech ranked 101-200 place worldwide for SDG6 “Clean Water and Sanitation,” SDG9 “Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure,” SDG11 “Sustainable Cities and Communities,” SDG12 “Ensuring Sustainable Consumption and Production Models,” SDG16 “Peace, Justice, and Sound Justice,” and SDG17 “Partnership.” In terms of the overall result, YunTech ranks number 1 among the science and technology universities in Taiwan. In addition, YunTech won the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA) and the Sustainability Report Platinum Award, which are the highest honors for the university group.

YunTech’s participation in the first 2021 “TSAA Taiwan Sustainability Action Award” without standing results, and won one gold (shaping the sustainable operations of Yunlin chicken industry traceable supply chain), two silver (ethnic studies and international co-creation design practice, new circular economy for food and agriculture, green and sustainable central Taiwan), and one bronze (constructing the sustainable and innovative development model of Zhanghu community) medals. The core values of the four sustainable action awards are mainly associated with SDG11 (sustainable cities and communities) and SDG12 (ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns) among the 17 sustainable development goals of the United Nations. This showcases YunTech’s extraordinary contribution to social integration and sustainable economic development. “Shaping the sustainable operations of Yunlin chicken industry traceable supply chain” is the TRUST Chicken Traceability Supply Chain Platform developed by the “Smart Agricultural Park Research Center” of YunTech. It was recognized by two national awards: the “7th National Industrial Innovation Award of MOEA in 2021″and the “2021 Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards (TSAA) Gold Medal.” The project also won the “3rdUniversity Social Responsibility (USR) Award – Industry Co-creation Group Model Award” honor in 2022.

YunTech focuses on the economy, society, and environment to fulfill social responsibilities and cultivate local creation. The project to shape the sustainable operations of the Yunlin chicken industry traceable supply chain aims to strengthen the new green and sustainable food and agriculture recycling economy in Taiwan. The objective is to increase international co-creation, design practice, and ethnic group research while promoting the sustainable and creative development model of the Zhanghu community. Regarding environmental sustainability, we advocate a lifestyle intimately linked with local communities, universities, and industries to foster healthy communities, environmental ecology, and coexistence.

YunTech will continue to implement a sustainable campus, promote public responsibility, and care for the entire school in four major aspects: implement teaching innovation and improve teaching quality, develop school features, improve higher education publicity, and fulfill social responsibilities. YunTech will follow the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and move towards “an internationally renowned university featuring innovative teaching and industry connection” to comprehensively promote the sustainable development of society, economy, and environment.
